QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field preferred. An associate’s degree in early childhood education or a related field, with experience working with preschool children and families, is also acceptable.
  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and enrollment in a 2-year degree program in Early Childhood or a related field is considered.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

The Early Head Start Home Visitor is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program for infants and toddlers through home visits and group socializations. This role focuses on supporting families by building on their strengths and empowering parents to recognize their vital role as their children’s primary educators. 

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Family Recruitment and Engagement

  • Participate in the recruitment process for Head Start families.
  • Encourage participation in Early Head Start by interested community members.
  • Encourage parents to actively participate in group socialization.
  • Involve parents in planning and carrying out activities for home visits.

Family Support and Needs Assessment

  • Assess the needs of each child and family.
  • Report home and family needs to the appropriate manager.
  • Provide resource and referral services to families where needs exist.
  • Maintain ongoing, purposeful contact with families to track progress on solutions to their identified needs.
  • Assist in providing resources to support each child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
  • Work with parents to help them become effective teachers for their children and foster a positive self-image for both parent and child.

Program Planning and Implementation

  • Plan and implement parent education and health-related topics for women enrolled during pregnancy.
  • Arrange and facilitate parent/child socialization and activities.
  • Plan and deliver instructional programs for home visits and group activities.
  • Submit Individual Activity Sheets and Socialization Plans to the Assistant Education Manager.
  • Evaluate activities and report on work progress with each family on a weekly, quarterly, and final basis.

Health and Special Needs Coordination

  • Assist in keeping family dental and medical information updated with the appropriate Service Manager.
  • Support early identification of special learning needs and communicate with the Manager.

Communication and Reporting

  • Keep the immediate supervisor informed of all problems or significant matters requiring attention.
  • Adhere to the agency’s policy concerning data privacy.

Training and Supervision

  • Provide ongoing training and supervision to volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and supported.
  • Maintain a professional image for coworkers to learn from and model.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience in early childhood education. Must possess or be willing to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an equivalent qualification with experience working with preschool children and their families.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The role of the paraprofessional in the classroom is to provide educational support for all children. Each classroom paraprofessional must possess or develop sufficient knowledge and skills in key areas, including emergency procedures, building orientation, roles and responsibilities, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and student safety.

Paraprofessionals are expected to continuously develop their expertise related to the children they support. This includes gaining an understanding of disabilities, following lesson plans, and implementing appropriate follow-up activities to meet the educational and developmental needs of all children.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Teamwork:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members, sharing duties with the Teacher.
  • Support Assistant Teacher/Co-Teacher or substitutes when the primary teacher is absent.

Child Recruitment and Family Assessment:

  • Responsible for the initial recruitment information of children into the Head Start Program.
  • Assist with recruitment of children into the Head Start Program.

Child Development and Curriculum Implementation:

  • Foster phonemic, print, and numeracy awareness in children. Help children communicate effectively using a growing vocabulary.
  • Provide resources for each child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
  • Support the development of daily lesson plans that implement the curriculum to fidelity in the classroom and on home visits.
  • Support Assessment and Reporting:  support complete assessments three times per year for each child, using data to inform lesson planning. 
  • Support daily evaluation activities and report weekly, quarterly, and final work progress with each child.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • May be responsible for inputting daily attendance and communication and identifying requirements into Child Plus.
  • Adhere to the agency’s policy concerning data privacy.

Parental and Community Involvement:

  • Encourage community members to participate in the Head Start program and support parent volunteers.
  • Support for parent meetings, field trips, snacks, and parent volunteer schedules in conjunction with parents.
  • Support writing regular newsletters to parents with program updates.

Supervision and Training:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Human Services, Education, or a related field and/ or a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of A high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience in early childhood education. Must possess or be willing to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an equivalent qualification with experience working with preschool children and their families.
  • Must possess, or be willing to obtain, a Family Service Credential or equivalent if responsible for Family Partnership Agreements.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.  Must be unbiased towards low-income families and racial and ethnic groups.  Must understand cultural diversity and differing values.  

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION 

The Family Advocate supports families in becoming stronger and more self-sufficient by building trusting relationships, helping them set and achieve goals, and connecting them to community resources. This role works closely with parents, program staff, and community partners to ensure children and families get the support they need. All work is conducted following Head Start Performance Standards.

Major Areas of Accountability

Family Engagement & Support

  • Assist families/individuals to identify and achieve basic needs, parenting, and self-sufficiency goals.
  • Encourage and support families/individuals, implementing case management methods for those seeking to improve their quality of life.
  • Promote the development of skills necessary for participants to become economically independent and succeed in their chosen roles.
  • Promote a positive self-concept and self-esteem among participants.
  • Provide guidance and referral services to assist participants in meeting their long- and short-term goals.
  • Develop appropriate support mechanisms to assist participants in achieving their objectives.
  • Make home visits a priority and additional visits as appropriate.

Recruitment & Enrollment

  • Support field staff in recruiting and enrolling income-eligible children and families for the program.
  • Support and provide feedback for the annual Recruitment Plan of Action, supporting field staff’s engagement in outreach efforts, child enrollment, and the maintenance of waiting lists.
  • With the direction of the Family Service Manager, provide guidance and training to field staff on effective recruitment strategies and enrollment procedures.
  • Support the Family Services Manager in tracking and evaluating recruitment efforts, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and organizational goals.

Compliance & Program Standards

  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with Head Start regulations and agency procedures.
  • Document all family contacts, services provided, and progress toward goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of family information.
  • Inform the Family Service Manager of all problems, unusual or extraordinary matters of significance to enable prompt corrective action.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Responsible for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) duties, including food monitoring.

 Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with classroom teachers, health staff, and other team members to ensure that services are coordinated for families.
  • Participate in case reviews and team meetings to support the success of children and their families.
  • Assist in planning and supporting parent meetings, trainings, and events.

Home Visits and Follow-Up

  • Conduct home visits as required to build relationships and provide support in the family’s environment.
  • Provide crisis intervention and follow-up as needed during family emergencies.

Parent Engagement in Program Activities

  • Encourage and support parent participation in the classroom, center activities, and parent committees.
  • Help parents understand and advocate for their child’s development and learning.

Administrative & Other Duties
